Why Attendance at Swim Meets Matters
Participating in swim meets can help monitor your child’s progress in swimming skills and times over time.
Signing Up for Swim Meets
When event information is available, you can sign up for the meet on the club’s website or in person at practice.
What to Expect at a Swim Meet
- Arrival: Arrive early, about 15-20 minutes before warm-up begins.
- Check-in: Locate the check-in spot, where the swimmer’s name needs to be checked for participation.
- Psyche Sheet: Get a psyche sheet to see where your child is placed based on their previous times.
- Heat Sheet: Purchase a heat sheet to know the exact heat and lane your child will be swimming in.
- Preparation: Write down event numbers on your child’s hand to keep track of their races.
During the Meet
- Warm-up: Follow instructions from the coach for warm-up sessions.
- Race Time: Swimmers get behind the blocks when their event is called.
- Post-Race: After the race, get the swimmer’s time from the timer and report to the coach for feedback.
After the Meet
- Results: Results will be posted, and awards may be distributed at a later time.
- Relays: Ensure your child is not part of any relay before leaving.
Ensuring your child is prepared and comfortable at their first swim meet can make the experience enjoyable and rewarding for both of you!
