Pre-Tryout Preparations
1. Stay in Shape
Encourage your child to run about 3 days a week to build endurance. Running 2-3 miles easily can be a good benchmark for readiness.
2. Work on Agility and Balance
Emphasize good running, stopping, and changing directions by practicing short sprints. Aim for a 40-yard time under 6 seconds and a 100-yard time under 14 seconds.
3. Sharpen Shooting Skills
Create a target on the wall using chalk and practice kicking the ball into it from various distances. Start close and gradually move further back for more challenge.
4. Master Ball Control
Ensure your child practices receiving, trapping, and controlling the ball regularly to enhance their technique.
5. Maintain Strength
Include pushups and situps in your child’s routine every other day to help them stay strong for the game.
Day of Tryouts
1. Arrive Early
Give your child plenty of time to warm up and get mentally prepared before the tryouts begin.
2. Wear Distinctive Clothing
If possible, have your child wear something unique to stand out from the crowd, making it easier for coaches to notice them.
3. Play with Energy and Impact
Encourage your child to play vigorously and influence the game, especially during small-sided matches where most decisions are made.
4. Communicate Effectively
Urge your child to provide instructions and support to teammates through verbal and visual cues to showcase leadership skills.
5. Be Proactive
Encourage your child to introduce themselves to coaches, ask questions to understand the tryout process, and show enthusiasm for the opportunity.
By following these fun and useful tips, your child will be better prepared and more confident for their upcoming soccer tryouts. Good luck!
